That was a good change. I’d argue even removing the cable would be a good change. Less e-waste (even though releasing phones every year is e-waste enough).

Apple copy Samsung too, Apple just has good marketing and gives random names to standard tech to make it sound like its something amazing you should care about.

Samsung wanted to sell wireless buds too, so they also removed the 3.5mm port. At least their SD card slot stuck around for a bit longer. They could release a true flagship if they wanted with a 3.5mm port and an SD card slot, but why would they when millions of people buy their phones each year anyway?

Both are shitty in their own ways, but at least Samsung is Android.

This is one of those shitty products that you can see being shitty from a mile away, yet all the coverage and discussion around it gives it a life it otherwise wouldn’t have had.

Or if there is a noticeable difference, you have to really listen for it. Which if you wanna do that, then fine, but the vast majority of the time usually have music on while they are doing something else and don’t sit listening for every subtle difference, if one exists.

Even in blind tests with high end gear, people often mistake 320kbps MP3s as the lossless track. Compression is incredible these days and isn’t inherently a bad thing like it used to be, it saves a lot of space and bandwidth with minimal to no perceivable difference in quality.

And as you point out, not even worth considering with average equipment.

Yes, I made this point in my comment, the last few years Spotify has been going through the same UX disaster the rest of the web is, changing things for the sake of it.

There just isnt though. Spotify had the best UX of any music streaming service for the longest time and only recently have they started shooting themselves in the foot.
Lossless is pointless and not a selling point compared to interface and usability across hardware. Tidal is probably it’s closest competitor, but it still doesnt have the integration Spotify does.

Linux users do this and then wonder why no one wants to switch to linux.

It’s a very small amount of space. When it was first removed the space was still there just empty. There’s phones that do exist that have SD card slots and headphone jacks. The hardware required is very very cheap, especially at scale, so cost is a non-factor. For such minimal resources, who wouldn’t want the option of more features? There’s plenty of features of smartphones that most people don’t use, it doesn’t mean we should remove them to the detriment of the people who do.

That’s the only benefit I can think of, the reverse charging on phones (which is very slow). They could add that feature to the usb port though. I mean the dock thing sounds alright I guess, but I just plug my phone in, then it’s charging on desk and in hand and it only needs to be in for like 30 mins and it’s full charged.
