It’s v1 from a relatively new company, trying something unprecedented. I’m not surprised it has some major flaws. The first Gen framework 13 did as well.

I own a Gen2 and a Gen3 framework 13 and they are both phenomenal. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a slim laptop, that wasn’t overly concerned about cost.

I’m sure the Gen3 FW16s will be great as well, but it’s going to be a bit before I would recommend them to anyone.

What I think would be great for framework to do next is to design a purpose built eGPU for the framework 13. I would really enjoy something that would turn the FW13 into a decent gaming PC, while still retaining the portability for travel.

How do you set this up to forward properly? Do you use different domains for different services? like plex.example.com?

I currently have nginx set up to forward based on port, which is fine for me, but it could be a little better.

Trade in value drops very rapidly for non-iphones after a year or two. You can often get 50% back on the purchase by trading in a functional phone.

It’s not a KVM though, which is why it’s only $50. It has no video capability.

I’m excited that they continue to innovate and listen to customers. I own two Framework laptops, and I’m thrilled that I can easily upgrade to this version without having to replace the whole thing.

Even better that I can replace parts as they wear out, or as I feel. I love the monitor, so no need to replace it now. If it ever gets damaged though, I can grab the upgraded one without changing anything else. If the battery starts to suck, I can update to a higher Wh one.

The article implies that it’s a long term thing, but doesn’t actually state if it’s better or worse for older cars?

Do people that exclusively buy used cars have less exposure because there isn’t as much off gassing of the newly applied chemicals? Or are older cars more susceptible due to the breakdown over time?

It was mostly a miscommunication with the engineer, but still, the guy stacking the boulders never realized they wouldn’t be stable the original way it was done, with the support wall built the way it is.

That would be a great platform to start with.

Price in a backup solution too, you don’t want to have all your movies disappear because of one hard drive crash, or an accidental reformat gone wrong.

RAID is not a backup.

Feels like some of that stuff, like the SSD’s are a bit overkill for a media server. Most of them still use spinning disks to maximize size vs. cost.

Additionally, the CPU/GPU needs of a media server are pretty minor, unless you need to transcode on the fly, and even then, single streams aren’t very intensive either.

So unless you’re capping the outgoing bandwidth to multiple external sources, you’re most likely just streaming the video source as-is to the destination, which just needs a stable network stream. If you don’t need to transcode at all, you don’t really even need a GPU on the hardware.

I certainly didn’t miss “in the office.” For my office use, at a very large corporation, I personally have no need for Windows at all. None of the people on my team have a need for Windows.

OF COURSE my team doesn’t have a choice. OF COURSE most people who work at a mid size or larger corporation don’t have a choice. But we ALSO don’t use Win 11. The implication in the original comment was that it was a recommendation, but that definitely wouldn’t be the best recommendation for everyone.

The only reason to use Windows in a corporate environment is because that’s how it’s always been done. That’s changing though, because a lot of executives want Macs now, cause it’s the new shiny thing. Maybe that’ll start allowing other choices down the chain too.

Only if you absolutely need Win11 features. There’s very little at work that I actually need a Windows computer for, I’d do way better with a Linux desktop.

Office 365 is fine for some people, but all I need is a plaintext editor, SSH capabilities, and a couple HTTPS communications utilities. LibreOffice would be fine for the few documents I need to share, most of the rest is a git wiki.
