The reason they moved back is because Excel.

Several comments specifically talked about VMs for the various apps. And frankly I’m not super familiar with the limitations of containerizing apps either. That’s part of why I was looking for an immutable os + flatpacks / snaps - it’s much more similar to a normal linux system just organized in a way to not break shit.
Federation of a service is confusing because it is a difficult problem to conceptualize. There’s no way to easily explain how to use federated services to non techies.
For me? That’s fine. I can use federated stuff.
For my mom? Nope. But she needs to get off the internet in general so that’s probably a bad example.
Is there a performance impact on the jellyfin server by having the NAS on a separate machine? How long does it take to serve a 20gb rip of a bluray?
Honestly I had never built an NAS and installed an OS on it before. I’ve only ever used the junk that ASUSTOR puts out and I want to have control over things. So a good part of the reason I asked on here was to see what other people had done and why.
Oh I like the look of that.
It’s mostly for running media servers like jellyfin.
I want immutability because I come from a the debian world where everything just works. But I want the benefits of using modern versions of packages.
Honestly I kind of agree with op’s submission. Apple just didn’t have a real plan for what they wanted it to be. It sits in an awkward niche between AR and VR and it sucks at both as a result.
A heads up display that could overlay useful information onto the world around you would be amazing.
The problem is that the apple vision is huge and bulky. They need to shrink it down to the size of big nerd eyeglasses. Microsoft did the same thing with their whatever it was called. I played with it a few times at different tech demos. It was garbage from the start because it was heavy, uncomfortable, and the refresh rate was intolerably slow. Apple’s is a slight improvement in a few categories but it still completely misses the point of what AR should be.
Yeah but it was an unsecure piece of shit for more than the past decade
I used to love Thinkpad laptops up until Lenovo bought the line - build quality dropped off a cliff after that. I’ve avoided them since then so I can’t comment on their current build qualities except to say they used to be built stronger than those toughbooks with handles.
They’re junk though. You have to kick start them and they don’t have enough torque for anything but totally flat ground. Save your money and buy something else.
Or buy them in bulk at a massive discount to salvage batteries and motors.
Initially the price to use those scooters was like $0.50/min which was great when you had to go several blocks. Then Razor hit the market and beat the everliving hell out of all of those shitty Bird and Lime and Blue Duck scooters in terms of torque - you could actually just hit the throttle to move. Great! Then the price wars started. Except they didn’t go down. Every single scooter platform went up in price.
The last time I used one, it cost me more than $3/min. I was stunned. It would’ve cost me less to take an uber (and I could’ve brought multiple people with me for no additional cost!). No wonder these are going out of business. They have priced themselves out of the market.
At least I think Razor is going to stick around because they’re vertically integrated.
Yeah but how is the experience? While I’m not a fan of MacOS the polish and integration with the hardware is excellent. Hmm… I may need to see if I can dual boot this machine and check it out myself.
Normally I would retort “But we paid money for it - so they need to support it”. However I got my Win10 license by upgrading an XP machine to 7, then to 10. So I guess I didn’t pay for it. My other Win10 machine was originally an OEM Win7 license.
But whatever. When they rugpull Win10 I will just complete move to Linux. The only thing holding me back is some industrial software that I use for work and they’re in the process of multi-platform support.
I had a few come over and I was already in the market for solar so I entertained them for a minute. I told them “OK, give me some invoices for your other customers so I know what you charge. Black out the names, I dont care - I just want the prices of your services and materials”. These idiots would not stop calling me or coming over to my house for months. I kept telling them “Unless you give me actual, real world dollar amounts, I won’t consider it”.
Those solar sales guys are worse than used car salesmen.
I haven’t ever tried to root an android device and Linuxify it before. Now I am curious. I use Linux at work but I am no greybeard and that task sounds like something suited for someone with a little more crust than myself.

… I actually wonder if the graphics cards could multiplex across multiple dp to a single display.
