so tired of people recommending thinkpads when there are much better options. the fact the control and alt key were swapped for years is enough to never get ibm or Lenovo.

I’d check local places like offerup. can get business laptops for cheap when places refresh. there are a few people around me selling 3-4 year old dells with i5/i7, nvme, etc. take a Linux USB and install it on site before you buy to test. they’re more than enough specwise for daily use or testing. often sub $300

I liked him for awhile, it was informative stuff. But the last year or so it’s just complaining all the time. Not just about how companies treat us, but just everything. oh god, the difference between some of my old rips at 128 and 320 is damn near night and day. i though the song just sucked, but the quality was just shit. also found a track that got corrupt, but still played, but at 1/10th the speed, it was about 30 minutes long, but normally only 3 lol. just stretched the fuck out of it.

yeah, i’ve thought about it. but it’s cathartic to find music/movies, download and organize them, choose artwork in Plex, things like that. I’ve got them all organized in media monkey.

Use Soulseek (nicotine+) to grab more obscure stuff. Can get everything on there, just sometimes slower and not as reliable as a torrent.

Yes, it’s decent. Used one for almost 3 years, recently upgraded to shield pro and love it. You don’t realize how slow the Chromecast is until it’s compared to the shield pro.

i tried the pass, not worth a monthly subscription in my opinion. you can access the library at app.plex.tv in any browser just fine.

Don’t need a nas enclosure. Get old PC, load with drives, install truenas on a bootable USB. Once in, install Plex plugin, setup shares, and boom, it’s done. I’ve had the same setup for almost 15 years back when it was freenas, now running a 10 year old i7 with 4 8TB drives RAID 0 and mirrored. Performance is top, I share over 1500 movies and 50 series to friends and family, it has my photo backups, software storage, personal files. Can use other plugin, all web accessible (computer is in network closet, only has power and Ethernet connected).

I’d get a case with as many drive slots as possible in my next upgrade, but this is solid af and it’s all mine.

For streaming only, Nvidia shield pro with VPN app and stremio with torrentio settings. Nothing I cant stream if it’s a one off watch.

Don’t have to spend a fortune for a nice Plex server, drives will be the most expensive, but can be expanded when needed, can start with a 1-4TB drive and grow as needed and add RAID 1 later for redundancy. Can use SSD too.

Hell of a deal. i started using refurb drives, still 5 year warranty, because I was going through so many. Sometimes you get them half off.

I used real debrid before. Was ok. Rather just keep my VPN and have it for all my devices. Stremio, vpn and torrentio alone are enough to get 99% of what I watch. Worked ok on Chromecast, but Nvidia shield is 10x faster and better.
