If this article is even moderately accurate, then this is hard to digest. I didn’t realize that Russian electronic warfare was so advanced and capable. It seems to be having a significant impact on Ukraine’s efforts and bodes very poorly for them. The article didn’t address how they can counter Russian EW capabilities, if at all. 😖

My hope is that companies would learn from the brain drain side effects in the long run. You’re absolutely right that greater profit is what drives this and it was intentional, but it is short-sighted.

The company I work for just terminated a substantial percentage of its workforce. It was done without truly understanding the effect on many programs. I’m now standing on a desert island, alone, trying to figure out how to continue satisfying a customer with nearly all the knowledge and talent to best do that stripped away. Doing the job of three people was hard enough before. Now I’m doing the job of X people, a variable I can’t even adequately quantify now. And a lot of that work is so wildly outside of my sphere of knowledge.

Decisions that these large companies are making are causing side effects that they may not feel for many years, but they will… And it won’t matter because those executives have accomplished everything they wanted for themselves in those first moments.

Don’t be evil. Heh.

I really do hope a few of these companies learn. I’d love for people to not be treated as expendable assets that can be ground into dust, but as people to nourish and develop. I’d love to cheer for them. I’d love to contribute to their work.

But will they learn…

i use a different device than homelab, but now I am curious what I may be able to achieve with my syno system. it’s hw weak, so probably not a lot. but i would like to give it a go. if it’s decent, i may consider another device for the purpose.

I vaguely remember what you’re referring to and being pretty frustrated about it. I can’t remember exactly what changed regarding clicking an emailed link. I simply don’t experience that any longer. Either Amazon stopped or I changed some setting somewhere that I’m not recalling off hand… 😬

Currently, I have calibre-web (and the windows client) set to use my email’s SMTP credentials. I then set the “sender” to an Amazon approved email. In my case, the email isn’t actually real. I just use a forwarder.

Make sure you add that sender email to the Amazon personal document approved email list.

The most recent bump I’ve had with Amazon is that they no longer accept mobi files. It’s no big deal though since they accept epubs without an issue.

We each have an account. Login to the web interface. Choose the desired book. Click send. The epub is emailed to our Kindle.

Running calibre-web off a docker instance. Library is on my NAS.

I use the Window client to add books, handle conversions, and manage things since I have specialized plugins. You can read via the web app as well, but I prefer my ancient Paperwhite.

I use and prefer option one, but take it a step further in that I host my own cloud service. I used to use Dropbox for years, but we got divorced.
