Even as an avid Apple user, it just comes off as either sheer incompetence or disingenuousness to hear Apple wax such poetic over compromised security from alternative store fronts when macOS is just sitting there, having been doing it fine for generations.
I’m almost expecting Apple to deliberately self-sabotage iOS in the EU somehow just to make a point.
I’m no fan of meta, but I’m so used to seeing “but the children” get thrown about as a power play that I’m actually less inclined to believe Meta did anything wrong. Or at least any worse than expected.
Are there no phones that run Linux?
All reasons I personally had for sideloading my iPhone went out the window when I bought a steam deck. Now I don’t really care what happens here.

Tapping in a text field used to just put the cursor there. Double tapping would select the word, and triple tapping would select the whole sentence. At least I think that’s how it was. Now tapping almost always selects the word (sometimes it weirdly doesn’t, and it’ll select the first word of the next line if you tap the end of the line above… why would that be intended?).
If you want to place the cursor between two words, it best to use the cursor by long pressing the space bar or physically dragging the cursor (unless you’re very good with where you tap). If you want to add some text to a middle of a sentence, you’ll have to think very carefully about how to accomplish that without redundantly needing to retype some words that you had intended to keep.
Also, if an incorrect word gets auto-typed, hitting delete just removes the whole word instead of allowing you to just delete something like the last letter.
Some things change that never needed to. Editing text in iOS inexplicably got so bad in 17.
So, in other words, the AVP is apparently popular enough that journalists write articles if some end up getting returned. I guess that’s quite impressive.
Yeah… multiplayer was actually not that good in this game. Camera was unforgiving, online was weird and felt detached and non-inclusive. I bought the game to play locally and online with family, but all of us lost interest by the time we hit some cloudy area. In contrast, I had a great time with that Mickey game and the Yoshi one from a few years back. Wonder’s multiplayer should really not be getting fluff pieces.
I don’t know what fomo means, but the trick with the Apple Watch for me was to uninstall all the apps by default then anytime I used my phone and thought, “You know, I could probably just do this just as easily from my watch,” I reinstalled that app (or something similar). Ended up taking my phone out of my pocket less frequently and ending up with better battery life.
None of this applies to an AVP, though, but it really isn’t hard to come up with a few useful ideas for that kind of tech in and around the home. Maybe not at it’s current price point, though. (And certainly not out on the streets like some doofuses are doing.)
Fighting against sites like Anna’s & The Internet Archive is pretty much on par with advocating book burning in my opinion. I understand why some might disagree, but for me there’s really nothing to debate. Some people want to remove access to education from people who might not otherwise have it, stupefying society in the process, to make probably not a whole lot more money and to possibly live a little more affluently than they already do.
Man, apple haters easily make up a far more toxic, elitist, gate-keepy cult than any apple enthusiast group I’ve ever encountered. Go pester some other group that likes stuff you don’t.
As someone who’s been using apple devices for a long time, this pretty much summarizes one of my biggest concerns with the APV. The other being expensive, proprietary, and software-locked lens inserts. (Basically creating a proprietary tax for people with poor vision who want to be involved with spacial computing, antithetical to Apple’s accessibility efforts.)
I actually have a 3D Blue ray of The Force Awakens, but I’m not even sure if I would be able to watch that on an APV even if I could afford one. Is your library all digital?
