So it creating an exe and hiding it from the task manager is fairly normal then? From the screenshots another bloke pasted on here, that looks pretty suspicious

Cheers for the screenshot mate.
Heaps of stuff that’s positioned as the “alternative of X” feels like garbo. For example when I’m forced to use Pinta editor / GIMP over Photoshop when I’m using Linux. I get the expectation can’t be to have feature parity but some of these alternatives feel really poor
Love to see it. Really keen to see the type of new handhelds we’re going to get in the future and how that’ll impact market share
Amazing, the balls of these people
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Great that Linux is getting more representation overall though. Wonder how anti-cheat implementations work nowadays, I remember them not being supported on Linux before, so games didn’t run.
I’ve found it’s worked really well. One annoying part is if you use Google search, the top 4/5 results which usually are ads (but eventually redirect to the correct page you want) become inaccessible, as Adguard interrupts it
It looks like they have their own “vibe” and rigorously enforce it in their own community. That’s fine, it’s their service after all. Feels a bit strange to turn away potential new users when people are looking for viable alternatives
Was really keen on tildes for a moment when we were going through the exodus stage with Reddit. I wasn’t keen on the closed invite system.
I get they want to keep their own community and that’s fine, but it’s a shame they wanted to limit their growth in a time when people were looking for alternatives
Anything we can do to have competition in the market is a good thing.
Along with what the other old mates have said. Using containers is super handy in web development. You can use Docker Desktop (windows, mac, linux etc) and set up containers, one for PHP, another for postgres (database) and have them all interconnect.
The benefit I’ve found is that once someone has set up a docker file (the thing that says how it all builds and interconnects) you can launch it with a single click.
The Kbin project itself has a docker setup to get up and running, handling most of the connection between the database and Symfony (the framework of the website)
The issue is I’m keen on following the self-hosting / server specific content but generally I’ve got nothing exciting to add. I can offer upvotes and kbin boosts 🚀
This is a strange one. I assumed people wanting this type of service would want to view all the content from the fediverse but not push to the fediverse
E.g. start your own instance of kbin and connect with everyone but turn off your own federation so no one sees your posts.
Wonder if that scenario has been catered to?
Be keen to see how it turns out when these boys go at each other.
It’s got some nice icons so that’s a plus, but I think it’s the font weight and sizes that throw it off, it feels “thick”
Nice looking icon for sure. Fancy
I know we’re using codeberg for kbin.social
It’s been a pretty decent experience so far, similar to GitHub but a little more basic. The markdown editor is my biggest gripe so far, it has weird backspace handling on mobile
Never even heard of it, I’ll have to give it a go 👍🏼
